What Is A Dental Implant?
Our dentist may recommend a dental implant if you are missing a tooth.
Dental implants mimic natural teeth. There is a post which is like the root of a tooth, and a strong porcelain crown (aka the part that looks like your tooth) is held in place by an abutment on the top of the post.
Once any necessary healing has taken place, you’ll be able to eat normally just as you did with a natural tooth. In fact, no one besides you and a dentist would even know it’s not your natural tooth — that’s how seamless a dental implant is.
There are many benefits to having a dental implant over other treatments for missing teeth, such as:
- With the proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime.
- There is no damage done to the surrounding teeth (as is the case with a bridge).
- Functions like a natural tooth with no food traps (as is the case with bridges, partials, and dentures).
- Complete comfort & no sore spots.
- Matches your natural teeth for a beautiful smile.
What's The Dental Implant Process?
Your missing tooth can be permanently replaced in as little as three visits.
The very first step is having an evaluation from our expert dentist to ensure that your gums are healthy and that there is enough jaw bone to be able to support an implant.
We’ll take a CT scan in order to be sure that you are a candidate and then our dentist will use your scan to begin planning a precise implant placement.
The next visit would include the placement of the post, and potentially a bone graft if there was not enough healthy bone structure. Then there is a waiting period of three months to allow for healing and for the post to naturally fuse with the jawbone.
Once this has happened, then our dentist will attach an abutment to the implant post, and a custom crown will be permanently placed on top.
Call our dental office to schedule your visit to see if you’re a good candidate for a dental implant.
