What To Do if a Crown Breaks

Broken teeth are vulnerable teeth, so, please be careful if you’re trying to fix the situation without actually making it worse. So if you have recently broken a crown in your mouth, we recommend that you take the following action to help and not accidentally hinder the situation.
1 – Call your dentist
First things first. Once you determine that a crown has broken, you will want to start by calling our dentist to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. You will be given a time to come in and be asked to bring your crown piece with you when you come in. 2 – Put the crown back in place
So while you are waiting for your scheduled appointment time, you can actually use over-the-counter dental cement or even sugar-free gum to try and put the crown back over the tooth for the time being, until you can be seen by our dentist. All you need to do is fill the center of the crown with gum or cement and then stick the crown back into place. Should you discover that the crown won’t stay in place properly, you’ll want to make sure that you keep it stored in a safe location so you don’t end up losing or inadvertently breaking the crown.
3 – Take over-the-counter pain medications
Until you can be seen by our dental team, it is possible that the broken crown may cause you to feel pain. If this happens, don’t be afraid to take over-the-counter (OTC) pain medication, as needed, so you can function normally with minimal discomfort. You don’t need to be in a perpetual state of pain when relief is easily accessible! This should help you feel comfortable until you can get in to see our exceptional dentist and get the necessary dental work taken care of.
